Show Your Skills on your IT Resume

Employers often screen candidates based on their technical skills, so job seekers naturally want to make sure they present their skills properly. As a result, creating a résumé skills section can be a struggle.  Click here for more information.

Three Critical Elements of a Successful Job Search

As any marketing guru will tell you, the success of a product launch depends on the quality of its advertising message, its exposure to a targeted audience, and the skill of its sales presenters. If any one of those critical elements is missing, revenues fall short of corporate goals.  Click here for more complete list.

Will a Bigger Salary Make You Happier?

In today’s consumer-driven society, it’s often assumed that bigger is better (the popularity of the Hummer as a city car is a prime example). So of course, many Americans may believe that the bigger the paycheck, the happier they will be. However, recent research suggests that this just isn’t so.  Click here for complete article.

Hot Trends for Job Seekers

Is your résumé "so five minutes ago"? While job-hunting tactics don't go in and out of style as fast as, say, Uggs or ponchos, they do change over time. Keeping up with new developments can help you stand out from the crowd and land a new position.  Click here for a list of trends.

U.S. Firms to Hire at Solid Pace Through September

U.S. companies' intentions for hiring in the third quarter look to continue a healthy but stable pattern that started at the beginning of the year, according to the quarterly survey that staffing giant Manpower Inc.  The survey of 16,000 U.S. employers found that 57% see no change in work-force levels in the third quarter compared with the current quarter, while 31% expect to increase their hiring, according to the Milwaukee-based temporary-staffing agency. Only 6% of surveyed companies said they expect to cut their work forces, and another 6% were unsure about staffing plans.  Click here for complete article.

Should I Bypass the Recruiter and Apply for the Job Directly?

Question: I came across a job-board listing posted by a recruiter that seems like a dream match and was able to trace it to the employer. Now I am wondering if I should forward my resume to the recruiter, directly to the company, or both. If I approach the employer directly, would saying in a cover letter how I bypassed the recruiter and helped the company save money on search fees make me seem more attractive? Or would it be unethical for the employer to bypass the recruiter?  Click here for The Wall Street Journal answer.

Job Vacancy Survey

The Summer Pikes Peak Region Job Vacancy Survey was conducted from July 8th through 27th, 2004.  The goal of the survey is to provide current information on the demand for workers so that employers, job seekers, economic developers, educators, and workforce centers can make informed decisions in the Pikes Peak Region.  Click here for full report.  The major findings of the survey are:

·        An estimated 3,226 jobs are open for hire, up from 2,414 a year ago.

·        Of all employers, 12% have at least one vacancy and 6% have more than one.

·        The average wage for all vacancies is $13.10 per hour.

·        This year, 48% of the vacancies are considered not difficult to fill, compared to 58%, last year.

·        Full-time permanent positions comprise 78% of the vacancies and 20% are part-time permanent.
