Moonlighting in America: Strategies for Managing Working Multiple Jobs

Are you one of us? Are you thinking of joining us? By us, I am referring to the one in 17 Americans who are working more than one job.  Click here for complete article.

The Pros and Cons of Taking a Survival Job

Survival Job: Typically a low-end, low-paying job that a displaced job-seeker takes on a temporary basis (often as a last resort) when unemployed to cover basic living costs, in order to survive and avoid bankruptcy -- or worse.  Click here for more information.

IT Hiring Update

Several studies of IT hiring and spending plans paint a mixed picture for technology job seekers. Taken together, the studies back up anecdotal evidence from techies, who say they face uncertain career prospects in the face of lackluster job growth, outsourcing and other trends.  Click here for complete list of studies.

IT Recruiter Q&A

Sooner or later, you're going to call a recruiter or -- if you've got in-demand expertise -- find yourself on the receiving end of such a call.  Click here for questions and answers.

Security Clearances Stall IT Jobseekers

The security clearance backlog is drawing the ire of both lawmakers and employers, who claim the situation is a drag on the job market and a detriment to national security.  Click here for complete story.

Ten Ways to Keep Busy Between Jobs

With resume gaps now the norm, workers should pay attention to how they spend their time between jobs.  The reason is simple: Employers want to know how job candidates spent their time when they were out of work. Learning? Traveling? Moping? Unless you project the image of a can-do job seeker, you're likely to have a tough time bouncing back from periods of unemployment.  Click here for more information.

PPWFC Network Groups

The PPWFC Network Groups promote networking among those currently unemployed, concerned about losing their job, or looking for a new career opportunity.  The goals of the Network Groups include sharing information about job leads and opportunities; sharpening job search skills, techniques and ideas; supporting and encouraging one another in the job search process.  Three network groups are held at PPWFC every week:  The IT group meets Tuesday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 and is primarily for individuals with backgrounds in information technology and the high tech industry.  The general group meets Tuesday afternoons from 2:00 – 3:30 and is for individuals who are not in information technology or have little or no management or supervisory background.  The executive group meets Wednesday mornings from 10:00 – 12:00 and is for individuals with a background in management and supervision.  For more information on the Network Groups, contact Steve Fehl at 667-3836 or fehl.s@ppwfc.org.
