Career Consultants

Career Consultants are central to the PPWFC services provided to our residents who are looking for their next job, or who want to launch a new career, or who need to increase their skills and competencies in their current jobs.

A career consultant is an expert in local labor market information which they provide to job seekers for heightened understanding of the mix of local occupations and industries so as to better distinguish between occupations in demand and occupations that may be in decline. This labor market expertise also enables Career Consultants to provide other valuable information such as prevailing wages in various occupations, projected growth of career fields, and the latest word on new and developing industries and occupations.

Career consultants are also experts in advising job seekers about the tools and processes that lead to landing a job: the essentials of resume development, effective interviewing, where and how to use networks to improve employment opportunities, and the basics of “moving up” within one’s place of employment. At the same time, Career Consultants are advocates for the interpersonal or “soft skills” that local businesses seek in their employees like problem-solving, positive attitude, creativity, and team work.

Finally, Career Consultants are skilled advisors on local resources for education and training that will lead job seekers into demand occupations. Armed with extensive knowledge of public and private colleges and technical and vocational post-secondary schools, Career Consultants assist customers to make informed decisions about which program and what credential at what cost to pursue. In addition, Career Consultants at PPWFC administer financial assistance for certain programs of training that lead to employment in demand occupations spanning the spectrum from manufacturing to technical health sciences. They work with customers to develop training plans and then coordinate those plans with schools to assure that the student receives the education and training they need to obtain a marketable degree, license, or other occupational credential.

Through these and many other professional activities, PPWFC’s Career Consultants provide a highly beneficial service to the Pikes Peak region: they help build a base of skilled and educated workers who make a positive difference to the employers for whom they work thereby enriching the fabric of our community.
