At Work In Our Community

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC) and the Pikes Peak Workforce Investment Board (WIB) organize a comprehensive community-wide response to the challenges of building a highly-skilled workforce. To reach that goal, several committees are sponsored by PPWFC to addresses industry-specific issues related to the workforce in our community:

  1. Community Audit - the audit project evolved into the development of a functional website of workforce data for El Paso and Teller counties in Colorado. The website provides accurate, historical, time-series, labor market data for the region. These data are organized in Excel spreadsheets for ease of downloading and customizing. The data are arranged in a numbered series and include information on population and general demographics (100 series), employment wages and income (200 series), housing and household information (300 series), military profiles (400 series), K-12 and public higher education (600 series), tourism and miscellaneous (700 series). The website was designed to allow easy updating of existing data and so that other data series can be added at any time in the future.
  2. Community Collaboration of Healthcare Providers and Educators (CCHPE) - The Community Collaboration of Healthcare Providers and Educators is working to meet the challenges facing Healthcare Staffing and Education.

    This collaborative, industry focus group is comprised of healthcare providers, employers, educators, and workforce development professionals who meet regularly to identify problems and develop solutions related to the recruitment, retention and education of current and future workers in the healthcare industry. Current initiatives facilitated by the CCHPE include:
    • a website designed to provide job seekers, educators and employers a healthcare career information clearinghouse;
    • an employer-led initiative to look at retention of nursing professionals;
    • an initiative to educate the public about the ever-growing opportunities in healthcare; and
    • an initiative to look at employer training needs and educational capabilities in the region so that programs are designed to meet employer needs.

      The Collaboration is leading the effort to build a unified framework for customizing a service mix to meet specific needs of healthcare employers in the Pikes Peak region.

      CCHPE meets at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, 2306 E. Pikes Peak Avenue on the third Tuesday of each month. Contact Vince Holmes for more information.
  3. Technology Education Partnership (TEP) - The Technology Education Partnership (TEP) provides solutions to the workforce development needs of local high-tech companies. Its goal is to facilitate a match between the education and training capabilities of Pikes Peak Community College and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and the high-tech community’s needs to hire and keep highly-skilled employees.

    TEP offers opportunities for faculty, students and community collaboration on high-tech and information technology issues and fosters closer ties between the educational institutions and area businesses. Businesses outline the number of employees needed; when they will be needed; what skills they must possess, as measured by what standards. The educational institutions are committed to exceeding the industry’s expectations for well-trained employees now and in the future! Contact Fran Martinez for meeting dates and times.
