Military Spouse Grant

Education and Training Grants for Military Spouses

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC) and the local military installations are working together to provide financial assistance to Military Spouses in the Pikes Peak area so that they may earn an undergraduate degree or credential needed to increase their employability.  Currently, PPWFC offers two programs:

  1. The Career Advancement Account (CAA) program is to help military spouses complete education or training in the areas of health care, finance, education, information technology, and construction/specialty trades, human resources, hospitality, homeland security and business administration.

  2. The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program is for those spouses who have lost their job due to the relocation of their military sponsor to Fort Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs, CO.

The amount of a grant to an individual may not exceed $6,000.  Grant awards are determined by the PPWFC Career Consultant and are based on training costs and other training related needs.

Career Advancement Account (CAA) Grant Eligibility:

  • The spouse must be the husband or wife of an active duty member.
  • Military member must have at least one year remaining at current duty station participating in CAA program (ie., Fort Carson, Peterson AFB, USAF Academy, Schriever AFB, and Cheyenne Mountain)
  • Spouse must have a high school diploma, GED, or some post-secondary education (but no post-secondary degree), OR have a post-secondary degree but require a CAA in order to obtain or retain a credential, certification, or license.

Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) / Relocation Grant Eligibility

  • Spouse must be the husband or wife of an active duty member assigned to Fort Carson Army Post
  • Spouse must have lost a job at the military sponsor’s previous duty location in order to relocate with the military sponsor to Fort Carson on or after January 1, 2005.
  • Spouse must be currently unemployed (or underemployed).

Other Critera:

  • All training for either program must be completed prior to the end of the designated grant period.
  • Training will not be provided to obtain Master’s level or Higher Degrees.
