Youth Workshops at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center are open and available to all youth, ages 14 through 21.  Workshops are generally offered throughout the month on Thursday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at PPWFC, unless otherwise noted.  Please be sure to check our calendar for workshop topic and register in advance to reserve your spot.
 
There is no cost to attend the workshops; however, you must first register in the state database, Connecting Colorado to attend. To register, click here.

Basics Computer- Part 1 Basic Computer Part 1: Practical basic computer skills Part 1 will cover: log-in, mouse operation, navigating within MS word documents. A minimum typing speed of 10 words per minute and knowledge of the mouse is required to attend this class. Thursdays: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please arrive promptly at 1:00 p.m. Note: These sessions are for job-seekers with little or no computer ability. Careers 101: Personality and Career - Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) A major aspect of the job search process is understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your personality, as well as what careers might fit best with your personality. This workshop, based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and its 16 personality types, will help you identify your personality preferences and the careers that align with your preference.

MS Word Skills -Part 2 MS Word is part 2 of computer workshops. MS Word will cover word processing, cut and paste, font changes. Resume 101: Build a Basic Resume Not sure how to create a resume? Been quite a while since you up-dated your resume? This workshop will provide you a hands-on opportunity to build a basic resume. Bring a list of previous employers and education, as well as a flash drive on which to save your resume. PREREQUISITE: Must have basic computer and internet skills. Provides beginner to intermediate instruction and guidance. Registration for this workshop opens seven days prior to the workshop date. If you receive this message "This session is full. YZ WIA Orientation and Assessment An overview of the WIA Program for Youth. Learn how we can help you find a job, pay for school, and much more! In addition, your reading and math skills will be assessed to help determine your eligibility to participate in the program. Computer Skills Certificate training program Sign up for the Computer Skills Certificate training program. This is a self-paced, instructor-supported training program, based on computer tutorials and hands-on exercises and requires a minimum commitment of six hours per week. The average time required to complete training is 40 to 60 hours. A certificate is awarded upon completion. The program includes Beginning to Intermediate Microsoft Office 2010: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You will be contacted in the order that referrals are received. It may be a couple of weeks before you are contacted. You do not have to attend workshops prior to this training if you already have basic computer skills.

Open Lab Open Lab is available everyday to help you improve your keyboarding, test your office skills knowledge, learn basic computer skills, and enhance your emotional intelligence. During Open Lab you can test for MS Word, Excel, Windows. No registration necessary. This is a COMPUTER-BASED, SELF-PACED LAB. A lab assistant is available to help you. Open Lab Times; Monday: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday: 9:00 to 12 Noon Wednesday: 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday: 9:00 to 12 Noon Friday: 9:00 to 2:00 p.m.



QuickBooks Quick Books is offered as a tutorial during Open Lab. There is no need to register just come to Open Lab and get started! The Open Lab schedule is • Mondays: 2 to 5 p.m. • Tuesdays: 9 a.m. to 12 noon • Wednesdays: 3 to 5 p.m. • Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 12 noon • Fridays: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
