Why am I here and what happens next?
We can serve you best when you know more about the
many free services available through the Pikes Peak
Workforce Center.
Step 1: Complete this presentation of Orientation
to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center.
Step 2: Following the Orientation,
you will be able to "register" with PPWFC,
over the Internet!
Step 3: Please register carefully
- list all of the skills and work experience you
have that relate to the types of jobs you are seeking.
Some job matching is done by computer. The computer
system matches what the business’s requirements (the education and
experience for a job) to the information that you,
the job seeker, list in the "skills" section
of the registration. An automated voice response system
may phone you about a job opening.
Step 4: Once registered, you may view and apply for
the job postings located in America's Job Bank, the
Colorado Job Bank, and SpringsJobs.com - all available
from the Job Seeker page of our web site.
Step 5: If your job skills and experience meet ALL
of the minimum qualifications listed in a job description,
a Workforce Technician will provide you with referral
to the position and explain how to apply for it. You
may receive job information by phoning 719-667-3700.
By registering with the Pikes
Peak Workforce Center, you become eligible for our
job matching program. Here's how it works. Once you
register, the kind of job you want is entered into
our computer. When a new job opening comes in, someone
on our staff does a search to find out who in our
computer database is qualified to fill that position.
If YOU qualify for the job, you may receive a recorded
message by phone. If you receive a recorded message
from PPWFC, contact us as the recorded instructions
indicate. If you’re registered,
WE CONTACT YOU about jobs you’re qualified to
fill.
Step 6: You may use the Internet to continue your
job search activities. Many employment links are available
from the PPWFC web page, click on Job Seekers to access
America's Job Bank (the largest in the nation), SpringsJobs.com,
and many others.
Step 7: You
may enroll in workshops that will help you upgrade
your employability skills. Workshops can help you learn:
- How
to write a résumé that gets
noticed
- How to complete an application that gets
you an interview
- How to make a great impression
at your interview \
- How to use a computer
- How to avoid awkward situations
in the workplace!
Business people volunteer their time to present these
workshops. Learn from the people who know!
Step 8: Visit the Resource Room,
a special area inside the Pikes Peak Workforce Center
where you will find a variety of tools and information
to help you research careers and occupations, conduct
Internet-based job search, update your résumés,
sign-up for workshops or networking groups, and learn
about upcoming events and other activities.
Anyone who is registered with PPWFC may use the Resource
Room. Services are free of charge and activities are
self-service. Basic computer and Internet skills are
needed to conduct job searches on the Internet.
The Resource Room is staffed with professional Workforce
Technicians who provide valuable guidance on where
to find information that can make a positive difference
in your job search and career exploration. They also
offer information about workshops and hiring events
and will show you the most helpful software programs
and websites for your job search.
Remember that the Workforce Technicians in the Resource
Room can provide information on how to apply for job
openings listed with PPWFC ONLY if you meet the job
qualifications. This means that you must meet the education
and experience requirements specified by the business.
