Our Financial Services Mini Job Fair was a success! Recognizing a moderate shortage of talent in the local financial sector, the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado partnered with the workforce center to host the event. It was a natural partnership,” said Greg McElheny of Centennial State Financial. “The workforce center has been a great resource. The Pikes Peak Workforce Center team celebrated client Ann Knight today! She has accepted a full-time position with a security company doing local area security patrols. Ann’s work history includes hospitality, logistics and security. Based on previous support from the Workforce Center, Ann knew job seeker assistance was available from our team. “The last time I visited, you assisted with my resume and provided computer classes that were very helpful,” said Ann. “At the time, you helped bring back my self-esteem and your team made it possible for me to see the future. I was down-heartened because I didn’t have the skills. But, your team taught me that given the right skills, you can do any job correctly.” Ann returned to the workforce center to begin a new job search just over a week ago. “Paulette helped me significantly,” said Ann. “She gave me support and told me it was going to be alright. Sometimes, that’s all you need.” Paulette helped Ann update her resume and recommended she attend the hiring event today. “I wasn’t going to leave until I had a job today, and I’m so excited to return to security work,” said Ann, “Your team had me take a career assessment and it recommended security as a career consideration. Your team is awesome, and I would recommend anyone looking for a job to visit the Workforce Center. You make job seekers feel like people again. Without your help, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do this, so thank-you.” Congratulations Ann! #wechangelives

She has accepted a full-time position in the Barista and Bakery Department at a national Grocery Chain with several regional stores. The position has opportunity for supervisory and management growth. Sonia’s recent work history includes customer service and order fulfillment, multiple positions with a private pre-school, and experience in real estate. As her previous employer went out of business, they hosted a job fair where she met our customer service team. Sonia’s journey has included completion of multiple Workforce Center job seeker workshops ensuring a top-quality resume, confidence in her interview skills, a quality LinkedIn page, and more. “For those who are between jobs, I encourage them to visit the Workforce Center,” said Sonia. “Being in a professional environment where others are also looking for jobs is so much better than trying to do it at home alone.” Sonia’s final advice to job seekers: patience. “When it’s been a long job search, you can be excited to accept the first offer,” said Sonia. “When offered a position, I recommend asking for 24 hours to consider the offer. Sometimes that first offer is not the right fit, and you should continue your job search, if you can.” Congratulations Sonia! (With our team, second from right) #wechangelives

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center team celebrated client Sabonn Jones today! She has been hired with a national telephone research company – starting tomorrow! The success follows a family relocation from California in December, having left a job in a state financial regulatory office. Sabonn’s work history includes significant IT systems administration and project management work. Her local job search began in March with an initial stop at the Workforce Center. She completed five jobseeker workshops and arrived today with a plan. “This morning, my husband told me to meet with your team and ask for more help finding work,” said Sabonn. “I came in and began updating my resume on ConnectingColorado and was about to do just that.” While updating her connectingcolorado.com profile to sign up for an advanced workshop, Sabonn was approached by a hiring manager from an in-progress Hiring Event and asked to interview for an open position. After paperwork, Sabonn was in an interview within 30 minutes and was immediately offered a job. “I’m thrilled,” said Sabonn. “I expected progress, but didn’t expect to have a job today. Because of my plan to meet with your team, I was dressed interview-ready, I had my resume, references, employment verification and job seeker business cards – all developed through my Workforce Center workshops. So, ironically, I was ready for an interview even though I didn’t plan on it. Having a job search last only three months is a great outcome, and my new employer even hinted at larger opportunities with the organization.” When Sabonn’s success was celebrated by staff and other jobseekers, she shared some advice, “Enthusiasm wins. Persistence wins. And, anything you can do to prepare is important – this is a continuous process improvement campaign. Get help – the Pikes Peak Workforce Center is a great resource.” Learn more at ppwfc.org
